Palo Alto Landscape Design Contractor Green Thumbs Up, Shares Advice on Organic, Sustainable Gardening

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 03, 2012

A sustainable garden works in harmony with nature. These gardens are low-water, organic, chemical-free, and support environmental conservation.

Sustainable gardens are the trend right now, says CEO of Green Thumbs Up, Fanny Obadia. Trained in horticulture and landscape design and specializing in organic, low-water, sustainable gardens, she adds that most techniques are easy and can save homeowners both time and money.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

????1. Plant native plants and trees which need less care and energy and will be healthier than exotic species. Another benefit is that native birds, insects, and other wildlife will be able to use the fruits, nectar, and habitat these plants and trees provide.

????2. Organic gardening is a great way to grow fruit and vegetables. This method allows homeowners to grow food without the use of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals that pollute the soil and water. An array of tools is available to bolster plant health and ward off pests, including using beneficial insects such as lady bugs, organic fertilizers, and compost to supply the soil with nutrients.

????3. Mulching protects the soil by helping it retain water, control weeds, and insulate plants from extreme temperatures. Materials such as wood chips, nut shells, grass clippings, compost, sawdust, or leaves can be used as mulch. Mulching is a great way to recycle materials that might otherwise be discarded.

For those with a busy lifestyle who want an organic, sustainable garden but do not have the time or expertise, professionals are available to install and maintain an organic garden.

Green Thumbs Up, a licensed landscape contractor with a horticulture background, can help homeowners re-create an outdoor space, add new paths, or build raised beds for fruits and vegetables. They are a one-stop shop, providing landscape design, installation, and maintenance with experience in many design styles, including contemporary, modern, English, Japanese, as well as landscape designs for Eichler homes. This is a company that gives back to the community as well, including sharing profits with Heifer International, a non-profit world hunger organization.

Its very important to me to build good relationships with our clients says Fanny, who has a hands-on approach from conception to completion and speaks English, Spanish, and French fluently. I take the time to listen and ask relevant questions about their lifestyle and gardening needs. I like to meet all the family members and incorporate what they want in the yard.

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Presents Impressionism and Post Impressionism from the High Museum of Art February 16 May 6, 2012

Jacksonville, Florida (PRWEB) January 20, 2012

More than 50 works by renowned artists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Mary Cassatt and John Singer Sargent will be on display at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens from February 16 through May 6, 2012 as part of the exhibit: Impressionism and Post Impressionism from the High Museum of Art. The exhibit illustrates the emergence of Impressionism in France during the 1870s, the movement’s evolution to Post-Impressionism, and its later influence on American artists. This progressive look provides a unique perspective of one of the most controversial, significant and ultimately widely popular artistic movements, said Hope McMath, Director of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens. We’re thrilled to bring this must-see collection to The Cummer and the city of Jacksonville.

The exhibit on loan from the High Museum of Art in Atlanta features works by such pre-Impressionist artists as Eugene Boudin to mark the initial transition from the traditional, academic paintings of the French Academy of Fine Arts and the Paris Salon to the loose brushwork and airy landscapes of Monet, Renoir and Pissarro that defined the Impressionist movement. Today, Impressionism is one of the most beloved artistic techniques but the movement was avant-garde in its day. Respected artists in the mid-1800s were painting dramatic historic scenes and religious works. Monet, Renoir and Pissarro rebelled against the traditional, narrowly-defined art of the time and challenged the status quo with loose, rapid brushwork and en plein air painting that explored the effects of light on the landscape, said Cummer Curator Holly Keris. What critics of the time labeled ‘unfinished’ and ‘superficial’ would later draw widespread public acceptance and adoration.

The term Impressionism was derived from Claude Monet’s painting titled Impression, Sunrise which caused a stir when it debuted in 1872. The Impressionism and Post Impressionism from the High Museum of Art exhibit features paintings by Monet, Renoir, Pissarro and Frederic Bazille, all founders of Impressionism. The movement spanned two decades and the exhibit represents works from throughout the period, including paintings by American greats such as Cassatt and Sargent who were influenced by Impressionism, and examples of how the movement evolved into Post-Impressionism as seen in works by Bonnard, Paul C?zanne, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Edouard Vuillard. In addition to a change in technique to more visible strokes, Impressionist artists broke away from traditional rules of subject matter and composition. Impressionism was the mix of all of these elements candid poses and more natural compositions, brushstrokes that showed immediacy and movement, less use of black, somber colors, and the belief that the viewer’s eye would allow less detailed, unblended colors and shapes tell a story, explains Keris.

Some of the works featured in the Impressionism and Post Impressionism from the High Museum of Art exhibit include:

The Beach at Sainte-Adresse (1865) by?Fr?d?ric Bazille, a close friend of Monet’s whose artistic career was cut short by his death in the Franco-Prussian War;

Claude Monet’s Houses of Parliament in the Fog?(1903), one of a series of paintings the artist made of this important place in different light and atmospheric conditions;

Camille Pissarro’s Snowscape with Cows at Montfoucault?(1874), which shows the influence of Paul?C?zanne in its limited color palette and regulated brushstrokes;

Tuileries Gardens?(ca. 1897) by American artist Childe Hassam, which references a famous work by his older and more well-known contemporary Claude Monet;

John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of Ralph Curtis on the Beach at Scheveningen?(1880), an en plein air example with actual grains of sand from the beach in its surface; and

John Henry Twachtman’s Along the River, Winter?(ca. 1889), an austere winter landscape that borders on the edge of abstraction.

Special Programming & Events

Throughout the Impressionism and Post Impressionism from the High Museum of Art exhibit from February 16 through May 6, TreeCup Caf? at The Cummer will feature Parisian-inspired fare on Tuesday evenings and The Cummer Store will be stocked with a variety of Impressionist gifts, prints and treasures. Bellevue Towers Reaches 50 Percent Sold

Bellevue, Wash. (PRWEB) February 01, 2012

Bellevue Towers, the regions largest urban condominium project, has sold 13 new homes in January, bringing the project to 50 percent sold and putting it on track to meet its record setting sales of 2011. With last years sales totaling 144 units and $ 88,940,000 – double the volume of the closest, comparable project in the market – the January 2012 sales of 13 new homes for $ 11,100,000 confirm Bellevue Towers as the most attractive condominium value currently offered to buyers in the market.

Our ability to offer limited release prices in early January on select homes had a direct impact on our impressive January sales, said Patrick Clark, principal with Realty Trust, the brokerage company marketing and selling the project, who also noted that these sales included three $ 2 million+ homes. With the support of the Seller, prioritizing sales velocity and value for buyers has proven to be the right course. Bellevue Towers sold 13 new units in the month of January at an average cost per square foot of $ 486 based on the average sold unit size of 1,526 square feet.

Bellevue Towers remaining homes include studio and one-bedroom residences priced from the $ 300,000s, two-bedroom homes priced from the $ 600,000s, and spacious penthouses priced from $ 2 million. These homes range from 807 square feet to 6,398 square feet and represent some of the most generous-sized condominiums in the market, offering the best value on a per square foot basis. Original prices have been reduced on average by 30 percent, with a limited release of new homes reduced by as much as 40 percent from original pricing to generate strong momentum going into the new year.

The opportunity to purchase a home for 40 percent or more off the peak continues be attractive to many buyers, said Clark. Prospective buyers recognize that we are meeting the market in terms of pricing and value, and that has resulted in strong January sales.

Bellevue Towers consists of a 42-story North Tower and a 43-story South Tower with 539 total homes. Each tower offers its own lobby with dedicated concierge service, while sharing an array of other amenities. Residents of Bellevue Towers have access to a 24,000-square-foot urban garden nestled between the two towers, a private screening room, large dining room with terrace and chefs kitchen, fitness center, spa and sun deck, and a great room that opens to an expansive outdoor terrace with fireplace and barbecue grill.

The project also features more than 300 original pieces from Northwest artists including Lucinda Parker, Julie Speidel and George Batho. Standard finishes in all Bellevue Towers homes include Viking or Wolf cook tops and ranges, Sub-Zero refrigerators, Bosch dishwashers, full-height granite kitchen-counter backsplashes and master bathrooms finished in marble or travertine.

New pricing information and tours are available Wednesday through Friday from 11 am to 6 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 5 pm at 500 106th Avenue NE in downtown Bellevue. Prospective buyers may make arrangements by calling 425.454.9922 or visiting http://www.bellevuetowers.com/.

Editors Note: High-resolution images of Bellevue Towers and the new penthouse model home are available by calling (425) 451-4387 or emailing Margaret(at)gruman-nicoll(dot)com
